Winding Stems

Right after spending a few months filing and making all sort of tools that will be used during the second year I was introduced to bench turning with the 8 mm lathe.

I started turning first brass and then in steel with a 45° tips cone carefully checked by my instructor and and practicing with the filing of the square so I made several exercizes, then we started with a row peace of steel rod and turned it into a widing stem.

Tollerances here were in the hundreds of mm at that time seemed hard but later on the tollerances became even tighter.

Also during this part of the program we learned hardening, tempering and polishing with various diamond pastes.

Here some pics of my exercizes and all the winding stems I made,I guess I made a few extra from what the program was supposed to be but I liked turning and some extra exercize thought wouldn't hurt.
