Dial screws

Restoration is an endless work, one of the original dial screws was broken and both were pretty in a bad condition so I decided once again to remake both of them after as usual discussing it with my instructor, at least there would be both equal and rather then have one new and one old, also more practice and another challange.

I am aware that the basic of restoration is to preserve the original pieces as much as possible but for me being a student and in need of practice and some experience preserving the originality of the timepiece is not a priority.

After this consideration I took the mesurements from the old original dial screws and drew a little plan of action and once again sat down on the shaublin 70 and started to turn.

This time while threading one of the 2 screws I had a little accident and broke the thread inside the tap.

A little unexpected delay but the next day I was back on truck.

To round up the shoulder I used the same tool that I made myself for the click screw to hold the screws in the 8 mm lathe and round up the shoulder by hand and then in a pin vise to file the slot also by hand.

Both screws are not finished yet I will have to harden and temper them that I will do as soon as I have some extra time as school program carries on and time is quite limited and goes by very fast.

More pictures of the finished screws will follow, right now I have only pics of the process of making them.
