Click screw
The Click screw is a continuing chapter of the flat polishing, I realized that the thread on the mainplate for the click screw were very worn out and discussing with my instructor we decided that rather then making a new bushing it was better to rethread it and make a new screw as the rethreading was aroun a 0,010 bigger then the original.
Having in front of me the original I remade a brand new one from scratches.
I sharpened the hard metal graver, chucked a steel rod in the shaublin 70 and turned it, then I threaded it and parted off.
Turned around and made a nice big bavel on the screw head similar to the original screw.
Then put in on a pin vise and filed the slot by hand. (from the pic the slot looks very big but it is not actually in reality, of course it is a bit bigger then the rest of the screws but as it was filed by hand perfection is hard to achieve)
Next step was to harden the screw, clean it from the oxides and tempered to a blew color.
Now I had to clean it both on the screw head and on the threads so I came up with an idea and made 2 tools, one for cleaning the threads and the other for cleaning the head.
Both tools were made out of brass, some extra work but its always nice to be creative, after that I went back on the cleaning.
At this stage it was time to flat polish the screw head so I put the screw in the tripod and flat polished.
From the pictures you can see all the steps exept for the turning part until final result.
